Teaching Philosophy

Nature of instruction

The core philosophy of my teaching is to cultivate independent thinking in designers by reducing their reliance on me for solutions. I achieve this by creating hypothetical scenarios that mimic real-world challenges within the classroom. Using a hands-on, experiential learning approach, I encourage students to analyze failures through repeated iterations. Curiosity is sparked by guiding them through moments of challenge and resolution, fostering discussions, debates, and constructive criticism. These interactions help students clarify their ideas and make thoughtful design decisions. My role is to initiate conversations that encourage them to rationalize their choices.
* A hands on approach to learning set forth by John Dewey (1938) and David Kolb (1984).
“A student's ability to think independently can be sharpened by challenging them at different stages of problem-solving, as overcoming obstacles is essential to learning."
